Don't forget to pay attention to course golf rules

from:

The regular rules of golf are always in effect at any golf course, but many courses will have course golf rules, known as local rules, that may override a traditional golf rule or may place additional rule requirements on your round of golf. Course golf rules don't apply only to rules of play, but may also dictate rules of behavior for on the grounds of the golf course. Always check with the club house before starting your round of golf to make sure there aren't any course golf rules that you will need to pay attention to. You may also find course golf rules printed on the score card or posted in an accessible area such as the locker room or on the golf cart.

A few course golf rules specifically apply to the use of a golf cart. If you chose to rent a golf cart or bring one you own to the course for your round of golf, be sure to pay heed to use restrictions. For example, many golf courses will require that you follow the “90 degree rule.” This means that when leaving the cart path to travel to your golf ball, you must take 90 degree turns to reach your ball in a straight line. This is an important course golf rule to heed so that fairway grasses don't become damaged. You should also always keep your golf cart away from the putting green and tee boxes.

Following are a few more examples of some course golf rules you may encounter during your next trip to the golf course:

• Some golf courses may have seasonal rules in effect. For example, a common local winter golf rule is that you are allowed to “play the ball up.” This means that if you have a bare lie in the fairway, you can move your ball to improve your lie.
• Pay close attention to areas under construction or restricted areas on the golf course. These areas should be marked in some manner, and you are allowed a free drop if your ball has ended up in one of these areas or against a stake or rope marking the area.
• During wet weather, or times when the grass is sensitive, many golf courses will ask you to keep your golf cart on the cart path at all times. You will need to take a few clubs with you when going to hit your ball so that you can select the correct club and avoid costing time by running back to the cart for a different club.
